Commodore 64 Disk Check Project!

The Wisconsin Computer Club is calling any and all Commodore 64 aficionados who are interested in helping us sort through a massive haul of rescued C64 software. Most of it has been in storage since the early 90's, and we're not sure what's here and what works- and with hundreds and hundreds of disks to go through there's little chance our current members will have time to get through them all anytime soon.

Our goal is to catalog what's here, what works, and archive anything that hasn't been already. We believe there may be some unique BASIC programs in the mix used by area school districts. It's likely that we will have a lot of games and game copies in the mix as well. Once we know what we have, we will distribute the disks (and their containers) to club members- with some added goodies as a thank you for your time and effort.

If interested, reply in this thread. I'll PM you and we can go from there!

Many thanks all!

This may be the motivation I need to hook up the Commodore 64 I have (with disk drive) and see if it still runs. It could be a few weeks yet before I'm set. Somewhere I also have a contraption that allows byte-by-byte copying of 5.25" disks to a universal image format and supports I believe most formats. I also have a lot of disks that have not ever been backed up so I need to refine my streamline either way. To me the homebrew and lost software that may be deteriorating on media is of most importance to get preserved. I will let you know in the near future if I can be of any direct assistance. I also have a functional VIC-120 currently hooked up and also the means of reading and digitizing cassette data.

I've got some free time today so I'm going to power through a whole bunch of disks. Plenty to go around if anyone in the Point area wants two swing by and help out.

Yes, the 128D is major overkill for a project like this, but I'll take any excuse I can to take this beauty out for a spin! 😁
