eMac

Way back in 2021 I made a road trip way out to the western edge of the state to pick up a machine I'd had on the "wish list" at the time, an Apple eMac. Back then, I was on a mission of sorts to fill the gaps in the club's inventory across our membership so we would have one of each Macintosh so that someday we could put on a show where we could display all the Macintosh machines in order from the beginning to the relative end. That show was earlier today.

Since I picked this one up, the club has quadrupled in size and we have a lot more members with a lot more machines across our collective holdings. To that end, it doesn't make much sense for me to continue hanging onto a machine that realistically I will probably never get around to fixing when I have so many more projects. So it's time for it to move on to a new home!

The eMac (short for "education Macintosh") is a PowerPC G4 computer roughly equitable to an entry level iMac G4. It has a flat-front Sony Trinitron display and a good sized array of fans that help keep the unit cool. While it is shaped similarly to the iMac G3, it is quite a bit heavier, smooth, and slightly larger overall.

When I first got this one, it's problems were simply a dead hard drive- a problem that hasn't changed, though slotting in an inexpensive CF-to-IDE adapter will be fairly straightforward. It has some cosmetic wear on the front as it is formerly from a school, and was stored face down at some point- though the bezel on the front protected the monitor from any damage.

The new problem I've encountered is a reliability issue. It'll start sometimes, but not every time. At the show today, it did not start at all despite repeated attempts. I've read that there's several possible causes for this, all of them fixable- but as I said earlier, the odds of me finding the time to fix this one are slim.

So, all of that said, it is for sale and WCC members have first dibs on it. If no one here has any interest, I'll advertise it more broadly. If you take it on, I'll be happy to assist in it's repair. It does include the clear plastic stand. Make me an offer, and lets make a deal!
