Macintosh Quadra 630

In order to break up a bit of an overflow at his shop, and give me a chance to work on something new, @PS2it passed a couple troubled Macintosh machines my way, and they are an interesting lot to say the least. This machine is a Macintosh Quadra 630- a class of machines I know of, but haven't ever really worked on or with before, so this is a real treat! It is, like the others in this set, very strange I think.

On the outside, it's nearly identical to every other Quadra 600 series machine, though this unit does lack the CD drive. On the back though, it has all of this:

Coaxial? Component video and audio? What's all this?

Upon closer inspection, it appears this unit has the included TV tuner card installed- not that it can do much since analog broadcasts are long gone, but still, very neat. The articles I read online made it sound like these were fairly common, but I'm not really sure. This is the first Macintosh I've ever worked on with one installed, and I think that's kinda neat!

Unlike the other two machines which were not working at all, this one does load up to a boot screen, asking for a boot disk to get going. I expect the hard disk is either dead or missing, as it's deathly quiet if it is in there.

Like the others, this machine warrants a recap to keep it functional and prevent leaked corrosives from eating it. I have very high hopes for this machine though- from what I understand, this machine uses IDE hard drives, and I've got IDE adapters here that should work if that's the case. This could be a real Macintosh Gaming powerhouse!

I should have taken a "before" picture as this machine was absolutely rammed with dust inside. I'd wager I was the first person to ever turn an air duster onto it. It doesn't look too bad (especially next to my dad's mustard yellow Performa Plus monitor), but it'll be dazzling when I get it deep cleaned.

(So far I've only cracked one tab, but if I fix this right, PS2it won't know which one at a glance when he gets them back. Don't tell him though!) 🤫
