Here we go! The news you've been waiting for- the Wisconsin Computer Club is finally putting together NEW Open House events for the 2021 season!

Last year, COVID hit and everything was cancelled. This year, we're going out of our way to bring back the Open House experience, in a new format I think you guys will like! We're taking the show outside! Kinda.

As of this writing, we have a tentative agreement with the City of Stevens Point Wisconsin to rent park shelters with power supplies, and provided we are able to make significant efforts to social distance attendees and presenters, it seems that we will be able to host shows regardless of how long the pandemic holds out.

The new downside to this is that we will be subject to weather restrictions. Obviously no one wants to be out in the rain, in the heat, or other unfavorable conditions with sensitive gear, so events will be weather determined.

I am still talking to some of the folks running the show over in Wausau, Minocqua, Green Bay, Appleton, and even Madison to see what we might be able to do depending on what areas are more interested in this. For the moment, the only town I can guarantee will have events is Stevens Point. If you'd like to see an event in your area, and are willing to help me bring it about, message me here or on the FB page and we can talk about it.

More information will be available as I have it. Thanks everyone!

A few additional notes:

This is all still dependent on how the COVID situation evolves. Right now cases are on the rise and Michigan just declared a new state of emergency, so it's possible this could be washed away if things get worse again. I'd like to think that as the weather gets warmer and more people get vaccinated, things will improve for these sorts of things, but that's still outside my control. I will do everything in my power to make these things happen, but it is still possible they might not happen if things take a turn for the worst. I don't anticipate that, but it bears mentioning all the same.

Second, as this is a highly unorthodox means of conducting an "Open House" event, I expect I will likely be the only one bringing gear for the event. I also recognize the events we host this way are unlikely to match the spirit of the events the Northwoods Computer Club was able to achieve while it was still operating. That said, I feel that something is better than nothing- I would rather have some smaller events then no events at all. I also understand completely if enthusiasts, club members, and even the public choose not to participate or place themselves at risk. I may very well be all alone for this foolhardy venture, but at the very least we will have some fresh photos and threads out of it. For those that wish to attend/help, I appreciate it, but if anyone can't or won't for any reason at all, know that I understand and it's all good.

As always, I am also open to other ideas/suggestions on how we can run these events and others. Message me, or shout it out on the forums, I'm always open to ideas, criticisms, and comments to make this organization better so we can serve everyone better.

Thanks for reading my book/coming to my TED talk; have a great day all!
