Machines are labeled with sticky notes as to when they were last fired up and if they have any quirks. My current "color" strategy is as follows:

Green - Good to go, no issues.
Orange - Works, but with quirks. Usually overheating, finnicky drives, or components that don't work but can be worked around.
Blue - Maybe works, or has worked intermittently. Was also used as general "notes" for a while, so I have a lot of these still floating around.
Pink - Dead/Broken, usually in some major or catastrophic sense that will require some serious work to get the machine working again.

I'm open to suggestions on how to store and organize things better. Coupled with the forthcoming digital inventory list here, I should be able to keep track of what I/we have in inventory, it's status, and what needs focusing down. In the future I'll also try and add a Retrobrite "urgency" scale and maybe a "parts missing" list for things that are missing pieces.
