Retro Spector explores what it's like to buy, repair, work on, and "own" a vintage IBM XT PC or a related clone. He also shares some modern conveniences that can be applied to these systems to make them easier and more convenient to use. Enjoy!

I'm happy to have an operational 5160 with 5153 EGA monitor and 20MB HDD. I was able to get a 16-bit ISA ethernet and sound card I had working in them (despite being 8-bit ISA slots). I have it networked to my main router and can transfer files using FTP through the mTCP suite. This makes it incredibly easy to manage the drive from a modern environment without the need for floppy/HDD emulators. I also have a mostly functional 5150 and a parts-only clone. Many years ago I had picked up a 5160 from a garage sale for $20 with monitor and that was my "secondary" PC for a long time.

Those old machines are very cool! Did you use them more for games or other things?
