RoboCup II and Plans

We're tentatively planning RoboCup 2 for late May of 2022. I expect this will be our big "swap meet" event, as we can actually buy-sell-trade in that space.

We will have another "open house" event at the library before then, probably in February or March, with the possibility of a library event at either Wausau or Wisconsin Rapids sometime in the first quarter of the new year.

If anyone has anything else they'd like to see/do in that time, shout it out! I'm keen to collaborate to spread the retro fun as far and wide as possible!

I think a "theme" or "feature" might be a neat way to show how off an aspect of each display.

I'm tentatively scheduling our next library show in Stevens Point for Saturday, March 12th. I just grabbed the date as it's roughly halfway between new years and RoboCup 2.

Alright, so I've got some news! Unfortunately, it's not great news. They didn't specify why, but the Holiday Inn in Stevens Point isn't interested in hosting RoboCup II at this time. The email is a "no reply" email, so I don't know that moving dates is going to help much here.

I do have a meeting with the Stevens Point Area visitor center to talk about the event anyway, so we'll see what we can do yet. If we need to move to a different venue, that's fine I suppose.

I'm far too stubborn to let this one go. We will have RoboCup 2. ;)

A quick update! While we're still in the dark about what happened with the Holiday Inn, I am pleased to say we have some good news.

I reached out to the Stevens Point Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and they were quick to provide me with a list of alternative venues for us to look over. From here, we can make some educated decisions and make RoboCup 2 the big success we've been hoping for all the same.

As always, if anyone has any ideas, feel free to shout them out as everything is being considered right now. Many thanks all! :D

How many square feet do you need/want?
I'm really not sure. The actual "game" portion of the event doesn't take up very much space, and I can be flexible with display sizing and whatnot. Ideally I'd like a space bigger than the Pinery room we've had at the library for something like this, and preferably a space with more power outlets. That's actually been the biggest hurdle, a couple spots that are willing to have us have very limited power options.

I also don't know what the turnout is going to be. I expect we'll have a better local turnout than the first one if for no other reason than I'll have time to advertise it better than the first show, but if we do invite a bunch of vendors and exhibitors, we could have quite a few more people in from all over.

I've got a lot more calls to make before we settle on anything, but I'm confident we'll find something in the Stevens point area that'll satisfy our needs.

We have a venue, and a date!

District 1 Brewing, located at 200 Division Street on the north side, has offered us some space for RoboCup on Saturday, June 11th. We'll be able to run the RoboCup challenge fundraiser event, and everyone in attendance will be free to buy/sell/trade as they please.

I'll have more information soon, and I'll probably fire up a new thread to convey that concisely after the next library show. Exciting times!
