Swap Meet 2021 Discussion

Alright, so following a recent Facebook post, we've had some interest in a more formal "Swap Meet" style event where we can all get together (either in public or in a more private setting, up to the group) to buy/sell/trade gear. I'm projecting this out either at the end of August or early in September, but I'm open to suggestions- I can be pretty flexible that way.

The location will really depend on how "open" we want the event to be, namely if the general public will be allowed to swing through such a thing. I can also explore our indoor and outdoor options depending on what everyone wants to do.

Let me know what you think!

Sounds cool. Anything works for me regarding type of venue (although for timeframe I'm out of town the last week of August).

Barring some other major conflict, we can move it out further. I'd like to make this as convenient as possible for as many of us as possible.

How does everyone feel about Saturday, September 18th? Just throwing it out there, if anyone has any major conflicts, say the word.

I might be able to make it, but not until after 4 PM. However, things could definitely change!

I'll have a more formal announcement when we've got a day settled. We do have a fallback location if all else fails, so we can be flexible.

The venue we had on the line has backed out, unfortunately.

I'm thinking it might be wiser just to roll this into the show we were already working on for November. That's about the only way I can see this going through what with Covid wreaking havoc on everything else right now.

A quick update, I haven't heard anything back from the Holiday Inn for a spell, so I've reached out again to see what availability looks like for us.

On a related note, I received a message from the Portage County library asking about space requirements for an event. I have replied to that, but haven't heard back on that either- though that may be for sometime in the future too.

More information as I have it!

I'm back in touch with the Holiday Inn, and we're working out what a show might look like. They have a lot of spaces there, so balancing cost, availability, and physical space is the goal at this point.

I should have a more solid idea on then when/where/how by the end of next week. I'm hoping for a good one!

Negotiations are ongoing, we're really looking to squeeze this one in, either in terms of space or time. I hate to pay a premium for a space that's smaller than we'd like, but I don't necessarily want to play for a bigger one when it seems everything is booked solid.

A few folks have suggested some other locations we might approach, including venues in Marshfield and Wausau. While I'd prefer to keep the event in the Point/Plover area, I guess I'll ask straight up- if an acceptable space is offered to us in either Marshfield or Wausau, would that be something you would consider going to? I don't want to alienate or create any difficulty for anyone that way, as we do have more options to explore locally too; just throwing this out there.

Many thanks all for your time, consideration, and assistance in getting this thing pulled together. I'm (still) not quite sure when it's going to be beyond "soon" but rest assured we will have a cool-as-heck swap meet computer show in the very near future. 👍
