In what must be seen to be believed, here's how someone back in the 80's "fixed" a dysfunctional number pad on an Atari 5200 controller.
Every button on the keypad, including the "start/pause/reset" keys are all rewired to these doorbells. The keys themselves were all glued on at some point, though only a few remain.
The good folks at Gaming Generations on Point's north side are going to get it working, and I've no doubt that their wizard-tier techs will get it going again. Whether it's the sort of thing you'd want to actually play with is debatable.
