Transferring VHS tapes

Hello,
I've started down the process of transferring family VHS tapes to digital storage. One of the things I've found (from my first attempt) is that several of the solutions out there are not very good (almost all the eazycap clones). It looks like a lot of the ideal pieces of hardware are long discontinued(I probably owned exactly what I needed 15 years ago). Anyways, does anyone have any experience with this? I figured there may be some overlap w/ this group - additionally because I may end up using one of my older machines to handle the transfer.

I still have my go video dvd/vhs recording deck - dont really know when I will head east but if you run out of options...
I also still have another vhs 4 head deck and head cleaners (much needed for dubbing).
Would need to find them (have a storage room in house) so just let me know If you are interested.
cheers Dave

I have a "Cloner Alliance Pro box". They are available up on Amazon. It's kind of a swiss army knife of boxes. It can take signals from HDMI, Component, VGA or Composite. Looks like the price has gone up quite a bit since I bought mine a couple of years ago. It records off to a USB stick. The only real pain of using it is it breaks the files into 4gb blocks. It does come with good software to stitch them back together along with trimming and converting and resizing. I also have a composite to USB converter but I'm not sure where it is at the moment. Plus I'm down in the MIlwaukee area
