Winter Retro Fest 2021 Work in Progress

Alright, time for a stream-of-thought thread again where I break down what I've done and what I'm doing here, publicly, so that you can see what I've done and will be doing, and also get a glimpse into the chaotic nightmare that runs in my brain 24/7. Also, this serves as a handy place for me to check notes wherever I am, as I expect I'll need to shop a bit for this one.

So, the show was a surprise! I didn't expect to get as warm a reception as we did, and I certainly didn't think I'd be able to get a day so soon. As 2021 is wrapping up in a couple months, and I was bound and determined to have at least one more show this year, I leapt on he first real chance we got to do this, and the date was set- November 20th, 2021.

The library has a lot of perks- it's been in the same spot for the better part of a century, it's a well known educational institution that flows really well with the WCC's stated educational and environmental objectives. It's also great in that it costs us nothing to use the space they have there, so I/we can put that funding into other things. The downside, at least as of this writing, is that as an educational institution we can't "sell" stuff there. While that's not really an issue for the club and a show, it doesn't really work for the "swap meet" I had envisioned or planned. Granted, we will have a real-deal swap meet soon, but I know that'll affect turnout.

Unlike RoboCup, where I pushed to get everything that was able to be deployed out the door, this show is going to be an easier thing to run I think. The equipment list is pared down to fan favorites and "portable" curiosities, with a few unique oddballs factored in from the start. With any luck we'll be able to put together a good spread, and it'll turn out great!

One thing the library had made very clear from the beginning was that they wanted their tabletops protected- which I completely understand given what we're bringing in there. As such, I've secured a number of better tablecloths, and then as a fallback have secured an array of flannel pieces if we fall short. I hope people don't mind crazy colors. 🤭
