Free Blockbuster

I saw something on Reddit today that really inspired me- something I don't say too often. The post was about the Free Blockbuster project (HERE) and their mission to combat artificial scarcity and boredom while also getting disused physical media out into the world again, and into the hands of people who might actually enjoy it. Here it is- the Free Blockbuster kiosk.

Based pretty much entirely on the Little Free Library project's outline, and the related little food pantry- the box concept is not only tried and tested nationwide- it's already a flourishing concept in the Stevens Point area. We've got roughly 20 of the libraries scattered across town (check out that map!), and quite a few of the food pantries too. This should fit right into the mix without a problem.

So, who's going to do it? Presumably me, unless someone with grander schemes than me emerges. How? That's the more juicy question- there's the above pictured "kit" available for a not unreasonable $200, but I have a feeling that by leveraging the city's artsy maker scene I might be able to find some means to accomplish this with a nice "Point" spin on it.

I'll have more on this soon!

We have received Mayor Wiza's pseudo-official seal of approval, so I think we're going to run with this one. 😁

Next, we need to get some locations worked out, and then onto prototyping some units depending on those locations. Off we go!

The next closest one geographically to Point is in Merrill.

If I can get more boxes (and locations), I'll add more across the region. We'll see what happens. 😉
