Hello all!

The Wisconsin Computer Club has been invited back to In the Pines Studio on January 10th at 6:30 PM for another retro home movie video format demonstration! This time out we'll be showcasing Laserdisc, the first laser optical media format from 1978. The oldest player I can source is a unit from the 90's as of this writing, but if I can find a really old one, I'll make a play for it.

At the event we'll be looking at the format's history, the varying physical sizes of the various disks, some of the unusual ways the format tried to break out and try new things, and how it ultimately faltered. I've got a few surprises planned as well!

The showcase demonstration will be the 1987 fantasy/adventure film "Princess Bride" with a look at how the Laserdisc player works "under the hood." Precautions including modifications to the hardware to protect attendees from laser exposure will be taken.

Hope to see you there for this exciting retro tech experience!

It was a very good time!

We ran the Pioneer CLD-502, demonstrated it's "both side play" mechanism, and showed off a few different sizes and types of disks. About 25 people came, and everyone had a good time! Looking forward to the next one!
