Oddball PC Controllers

Many thanks to our friend and retro archivist Mr. Meiers, the club has three new (as in 'new' new) PC controllers to play with... and they're rather odd.

These will be fun!

I noticed that the Logitech ThunderPad bears a striking resemblance to some 3DO controllers.

A little googling, and sure enough, Logitech sold these as 3DO controllers too. The second wire was for daisy-chaining controllers on the 3DO.

The Gravis Stinger seems to be fixed on the idea that one needs a different (smaller?) controller to play on a laptop. Granted, most laptops didn't have game ports, so having a serial-based game controller is a good idea, but why make it tiny? Strange.

Finally the Rockfire Unipad. I know I've seen this controller before, and I have- it seems these were made under a number of names and for a number of systems... including the 3DO again at some point.

Have a look!

Reveal RA455, this time with start/select buttons.

Logic3 for the 3DO.

Creative Labs for the 3DO.

Weird how many of these oddball controllers wound up as accessories for the 3DO.
